Nose Gear Collapses on Southwest Airlines Flight to La Guardia Jul 22nd 2013, 21:59

The nose gear of a Southwest Airlines flight collapsed on Monday night as the plane was landing at New York’s La Guardia Airport. Southwest confirmed the accident on its Twitter account and on its website.

The airline and airport officials confirmed that Southwest Airlines flight 345 landing at LaGuardia at 5:40 PM Eastern Monday evening from Nashvilletouched down within the first 1,000 feet of the runway and skidded off the runway into a grassy area about halfway down its 7,000-foot length.

There were 150 passengers aboard the Boeing 737-700. All passengers have been deplaned and transferred to the terminal. Initial reports indicate local responders are caring for five Customers and three flight attendants who have reported injuries at this time. Some passengers were also reported to be suffering from panic attacks.  Southwest said that it is cooperating with local authorities.  The National Transportation Safety Board has investigators on the scene.
